Event Details

In a lavishly illustrated presentation, well-known author Greg Borzo dishes out course after course of stories about the Windy City’s most beloved bygone restaurants – from sizzling steakhouses to tiki bars; from diners to delis; from ethnic eateries to hotel restaurants; from Trader Vic’s to the Blackhawk. Savor the stories of such favorite eateries that over two centuries have been built by waves of immigrants, inspired by two world’s fairs, dreamt up by creative entrepreneurs, opened by world-class chefs and enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. Windy City restaurants have fed the hungry and helped us celebrate special occasions. They have attracted movie stars, launched nationwide food trends and created a smorgasbord of culinary choices. This program about bygone restaurants is sure to spark magnificent memories.

Greg Borzo is an award-winning journalist who has worked at the American Medical Association, Field Museum and University of Chicago. He has written 8 books, including the popular The Chicago “L” and Chicago’s Fabulous Fountains. Borzo conducts tours and gives presentations about fountains, the “L,” and bygone restaurants for the Chicago History Museum, Forgotten Chicago, the Chicago Tour-guide Association and other organizations. He lives in the South Loop to better enjoy all the history, architecture and culture–as well as restaurants–that the city has to offer.

Presenter will be virtual.
